Indigenous Genomics on stage at Sohn Hearts & Minds

Professor Alex Brown joined colleague and friend Professor Jason Kovacic, CEO of the Victor Chang Cardiovascular Research Institute, on stage at the Sohn Hearts & Minds event in Adelaide in November. The Sohn Hearts & Minds annual event brings together top investment, scientific and philanthropic minds – all in support of medical research. Founded in 2016, Sohn Hearts & Minds has raised $70 million to support medical research in Australia.

Alex and Jason explored the emergence of genomics and precision medicine, and the promise that this holds for improved diagnostics, treatments and preventions. Alex stressed the important of ensuring that the power of genomics be deployed to close health disparities between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non-Indigenous Australians, with Indigenous voices and leadership at the heart of precision medicine efforts. Working together, we can ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people benefit from genomics and precision medicine.
