SOVEREIGNTY | EQUITY | BENEFIT

17 July 2023

The inaugural ALIGN Symposium, attended by close to 60 delegates and held as a satellite to the XXIII International Congress of Genetics in Naarm, Melbourne, was a huge success.

The program featured national and international leaders in Indigenous Genomics who spoke about Indigenous data sovereignty, data systems and architecture, and precision health. Members of each of the ALIGN nodes also shared their plans and aspirations.

The principle of “nothing about us, without us” ran consistently through discussions, and set a mandate for all participants in line with the ALIGN principles of Equity, Sovereignty, Benefit.

Delegates enjoyed a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony with Naarm traditional owners from the Wurundjeri nation.

This event was kindly supported by Australian Genomics.
